Authorities on Tuesday placed Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest, ahead of a seminar in Abi Guzar area of Srinagar, organized by Joint Resistance Leadership, (JRL).

According to a spokesman, Mirwaiz was put under house arrest on today morning after a police party reached to Mirwaiz’s Nigeen residence.

The spokesman added that, on JRL’s programme, Mirwaiz was scheduled to travel to Abi Guzar Lal Chowk for a seminar to mark one year in prison of Hurriyat leaders arrested by the National Investigation Agency.
