All the shops, business establishments, government and private offices remained closed while traffic is off the roads.

Authorities have snapped the internet services in the district following brutal killing.

During the shutdown, protests were also held in Trehgam, Kupwara, Kralpora, Gulgam and Batergam areas of the district against the killing.

Umer Farooq Malik (8) son of Farooq Ahmad Malik, a resident of Gulgam village of Kupwara went missing when he left home on Monday afternoon, family sources said.

His disappearance triggered massive protests in the area with people blocking the Kupwara-Chowkibal road to demand his whereabouts.

The half-burnt body of Umar Farooq (10) with a chopped arm was recovered from a nallah on Thursday evening, three days after he was reported missing.
