Govt forms panels to conduct ‘preparatory work’ for elections to Panchayats, UBLs

Srinagar: The State government on Thursday constituted State Level and the Divisional Level Committees to conduct preparatory work for elections to the Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies.

Headed by Chief Secretary, the state level committee has been tasked to draw a road map and detailed schedule for conduct of Elections to Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats across the State on the basis of inputs from the Divisional level Committees and an assessment of the ground level situation taking into consideration security, logistical, personnel, equipment and all other requirements.

The divisional level committees, headed by the divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu respectively, have been asked to submit an outline of the possibilities and constraints to the State Level Committee  based on an assessment of manpower, security, logistical transport, equipments and all other requirements. “These reports shall be submitted by 27 July, 2018.”

The State Level Committees have been asked to submit report to the Government by 10.08.2018. The Committees shall be serviced by the Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj and Housing & Urban Development Department in respect of elections to the Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies elections respectively.
