Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership on Tuesday termed month’s judicial custody of Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi and her associates Sofi Fahmeeda and Nahinda Nasreen, arrested by NIA recently, as political vendetta and a “futile bid” to overawe the resistance leadership of the Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued here, the JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik urged international human rights bodies to take “strong notice” of “unnecessary and unlawful” detention of the pro-freedom leadership.

Asiya Andrabi and two of her other aides were produced before a Delhi court after their 10-day custody by the NIA expired on Monday. The agency told the court that they were not required for further custodial interrogation and that they be lodged in Tihar Central Jail. The court sent them to month’s judicial custody.

The NIA registered a case against Andrabi, her associates and the Dukhtaraan-e-Milat in April on the directions of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs.

“Sending Asiya Andrabi and two of her associates to judicial custody reflects worst political vendetta and is a futile attempt to overawe the resistance leadership,” the JRL said and urged international human rights bodies including amnesty international, Asia watch, CRC and others to take “strong notice” of “unnecessary and unlawful” detention of the resistance leadership in Jammu and Kashmir.
