Army commando killed in Kupwara gunfight, encounter underway

Srinagar: An army commando was killed and another suffered injuries in an ongoing gunfight at Sadu Ganga forests, Kandi forest range, of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday.

The killed soldier have been identified as 3 PARA’s Sepoy Mukul Meena who was hit with a bullet that caused fatal injuries. He was evacuated to military hospital Drugmulla but had breathed his last.

“Militants had managed to flee from the area they were zeroed in earlier but today in the afternoon they were again intercepted with the help of additional reinforcements of army’s 4 PARA commandos,” officials said.

Confirming the death of the para commando Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar said that one soldier has laid down his life in the operation that is still underway.
