Budgam, Jul 07: A mammoth gathering of people celebrated annual Urs of  Sufi poet Shamas Faqeer with religious fervor here at Shamasabad village in Khansahib area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Thursday.

Devotees thronging from diverse parts of the valley including men, women and children paid homage at the Shrine of the revered Sufi saint and poet.

Devotees offered special prayers at the shrine and were seen busy in reciting Darood, Zikr and the recitations of Holy Quran.

Despite the rush of devotees at the shrine number of Kashmiri singers visited the shrine and paid their tributes to him by singing the Kalam e Shams Faqeer, the poetry of Shamas Faqeer.

Shams Faqeer was born in 1840s and died in 1901. He is buried at Shamsabad village in Budgam which is named after his name.
