TRAL : The only ‘Hangul’ breeding center in Tral of Pulwama district, which was created in popular health resort ‘Shikargah’ area of this sub district in 2011, lies defunct from last seven years.

In 2011, soon after construction of this center, the only Hangul brought to this centre became prey to leopard, who barged inside the centre and killed that stag.

“From that day, the center is defunct as it is still lacking the animal itself for which the breeding centre was created,” an official wishing not to be named told INS.

He also confided that animal is not being brought to the centre despite ‘established infrastructure of worth lacs’ and presence of deers in this forest area’.

Officials said that they proof of the presence of deer in the forests is that some months back they had found some deer dropings in upper range of Tral forests.

“We were dousing the fire which had engulfed the forests and we found the deer droppings which proved that deers are present in the forests,” said the official.

Wildlife authorities have earlier claimed that they would resume the functioning of Hangul Conservation Breeding at Shikargah Tral soon but the centre remains non functional .

According to the locals , Wildlife authorities are not taking any concrete step to make center functional, thus leaving the Hangul breeding center defunct since eight years.

Range Officer wildlife zone Tral, Iqbal Khursheed told INS that “proposal to restart center is under process and Insha Allah it will be effective very soon.”

“Efforts are going on to make the center functional again and you will be updated accordingly”. Iqbal said.
