GoI grants 2-year extension to ‘National Mission on Saffron’ scheme

Srinagar:  Director Agriculture Kashmir Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi, today said that Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers welfare, (Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers welfare) Horticulture Division has accepted the proposal of State Government and has decided to give extension of 2 years to “National Mission on Saffron” to undertake the pending works under MIDH (Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture).

The decision has been widely hailed by the Saffron growers. Director Agriculture said that the mission was not fully completed within the stipulated time, and some components of the mission like installing of sprinkle irrigation system in the saffron fields, were under progress. He said that the extension to the saffron mission will give boost to the saffron industry.
