Sopore: A militant serving detention escaped from police custody of Bomai police station in Sopore area in Baramulla district  soon after attending court hearing on Tuesday.

Identified as Abdul Majeed Mir, 24 a resident of Tujjer village of Sopore was being escorted back to police station and upon reaching near he gave them slip and managed to escape from the place, sources said.

SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal confirmed  to INS said that the detainee has escaped.

“We have send team there to investigate into the matter. We have launched searches also in the area to nab the culprit,” Iqbal said.

Mir was arrested in 2016 along with a weapon and since then is undergoing his jail term.
