Kupwara: Thousands of mourners attended funeral prayers of Ghulam Rasool Lone at his native village Gagal Lolab, of North Kashmirs kupwara district, before he was laid to rest.
People from different areas of Lolab visited the slain cops home to participate in his funeral prayers, including MLC Lolab Kaiser Jamsheed.
Lone was youngest among seven siblings, five brothers and two sisters, all of whom are married. His parents, father Mohd Afzal Lone and mother Raja begam, had already passed away.
Wails and shrieks of Lone’s wife Halima 28 resonated among the mourners.
People attending the Lone’s urged Government of India and Pakistan to sit down and settle the Kashmir conflict ‘once for all’.
“We are losing our loved ones. Head of both the countries should sit down and resolve this issue with a human heart,” a mourner who identified himself as Bashir Ahmad Chogal said.
Lone is survived by a wife Halima begum, two sons Azhar Rasool 12, Bassit Rasool 7, and a daughter Misbah Rasool 9 years.
One of the Lone’s brother Mohd yousuf 55, is also serving police department as an ASI, besides Bashir Ahmad lone 62, a shop keeper, Habibullah lone 60, is a Contractor, while Imtiyaz Ahmad 35 runs a Medical shop and Ab Majid 50 is also a shop keeper.
Lone was killed along with other cop of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after a group of militants attacked the police post guarding a new court complex at Takiya Wagam in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district during last Monday. The militants also managed to take away two INSAS service rifles of the slain cops.
