Pulwama: Water ponds in Tral sub division have been turned into garbage dumping sites and authorities are unmoved at the pathetic condition of water bodies.
The residents told INS said that the water bodies including at Batnag, Wudnaag, Panzinaag, and many others, is the matter of serious concern as no concrete step is being taken from authorities to restore these ponds despite back to back requests.
“We are worried about the pathetic condition of ponds in Tral as these are stinking now and can impact us in the form of different health issues,” Hameed Ullah, a shopkeeper said.
As the ponds are becoming worse now, residents fear that dumping of waste will make the ponds totally defunct and will degrade the quality of groundwater.
“These ponds used to be very fresh and we used to enjoy the water from all these ponds. The present situation of ponds is very unfortunate” a local pandit, Ashok Kumar told INS.
It is pertain to mention here that many schools and coaching centres are surrounded by these ponds.
