Farooq recalls Afzal Beg’s contribution in quit Kashmir movement

Srinagar: National Conference on Sunday paid tributes to its veteran leaders Late Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg and Late Khwaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah on their 36th and 14th Death Anniversaries respectively. Paying glorious tributes to Late Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg, National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that Late Beg’s contributions and vital role in the history of Jammu and Kashmir’s struggle for dignity especially in the Quit Kashmir Movement and the land-to-tiller reform movement would be remembered for all times to come. Dr. Farooq said that Late Beg’s ideological and political struggle against Autocracy and his sacrifices rendered in the cause of espousing the sentiments of the people have altered the direction of history. Recollecting the contribution of Late Khwaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah in selflessly serving National Conference for decades, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that Khwaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah’s vital role in framing the Autonomy Document and consolidating an ideological support for the restoration of Autonomy in the State was an open, glorious chapter for people to read. Terming Late Khwaja Mohuiddin Shah as a close associate of his, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that Late Khwaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah was an epitome of loyalty, truthfulness and sincerity. Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that Late Khwaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah served the party in various key positions with great dedication.

Paying tributes to Late Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg and Late Khwaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah on their Death Anniversaries, National Conference Vice President Mr. Omar Abdullah said that the contributions of both veteran leaders in scripting a glorious era of public service would go down in history as a testament of leadership and statesmanship. Stating that Late Mirza Afzal Beg and Late Khwaja Mohuiddin Shah were great political minds and exemplary statesmen, Mr. Omar Abdullah said their vital roles in the history of National Conference couldn’t be forgotten at any cost.

NC General Secretary Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that Late Mohammad Mirza Afzal Beg’s pioneering role in the land-to-the-tiller andland reform movements was a reflection of Late Beg’s unconditional sense of service to his people. The NC General Secretary said that Late Beg’s association with Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was always underlined with unquestionable loyalty. Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar while paying homage to Late Khwaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah has said that Late Shah had rendered his entire life in the serviceof National Conference and like Late Mirza Afzal Beg, Late Khwaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah had spent years in prison because of his staunch ideological beliefs.

Senior Party Leaders while paying glorious tributes to both Late Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg and Late Khwaja Mohuiddin Shah on their 36th and 14th Death Anniversary respectively and said National Conference is based on the bedrock of the service and sacrifices of these veteran leaders who were the lieutenants of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and chose public-service and struggle over power. The Party Leaders said that workers, activists and leaders of National Conference should emulate the shining examples set by these great leaders in strengthening the party at the grassroots level.

Among those other NC leaders who have paid glorious tributes to Late Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg and Late Khwaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah are NC Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Senior Leaders Abdul Rahim Rather, Mubarak Gul, Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, Mian Altaf Ahmed Mohammad Shafi Uri, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Zonal President South Kashmir Dr. Bashir Ahmed Veeri, Shameema Firdous, Sakina Itoo, Mohammad Sayeed Akhoon, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, Irfan Ahmed Shah, NC State Spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu, Altaf Ahmed Kaloo, Abdul Majeed Larmi, Mohammad Ishfaq Jabar, Political Secretary to Vice President Tanvir Sadiq, Advocate Showkat Ahmed Mir, Peer Mohammad Afaq, Ali Mohammad Dar, Youth President Salman Ali Sagar, Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar besides various party leaders, legislators and activists.

Srinagar: Fresh firefight starts between militants and army in Paner forests in Bandipora district on Sunday.

Official sources told INS that army rushed reinforcements to Paner woods yesterday after a brief exchange of gunfight with militants. The army later carried massive search operation in the area and came under attack this afternoon. When this report was filed, sources said, firing was going on in the area.
