Sopore : Residents of Neharpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla District on Saturday staged a protest demonstration against Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for the prevailing water crisis in their area.
Scores of people particularly women took to Sopore-Srinagar highway and blocked traffic service at Iqbal Market pressing immediate restoration of portable water supply to the effected areas.
The protesters shouted slogans against PHE department accusing them of ‘failure to provide them regular water supply and for ignoring their sufferings in this holly month of Ramadan’.
Protesters alleged that they have approached PHE department Sopore many times but ‘callous approach of officials is impediment in giving people a sigh of relief’.
Meanwhile officials at PHE department Sopore when contacted told INS said that due to leakage in water pipe line ‘inconvenience was caused to residents’
“We have sent one water tanker today for them and also stated work on pipe line so that they will get water as per schedule,” officials said, wishing not to be named as he is not authorised to talk to media.
