Anantnag: Students of Hanfiya High School Anantnag launched an anti-plastic drive by distributing 1500 paper carry bags at the Anantnag’s busy localities on Wednesday.

The youngsters, committed to spreading the environment message, wanted to eradicate plastic bags from the city’s shopping culture. They urged the public to refrain themselves from the use of plastics in their daily life.

Though the Local Muncipal Corporation declared a ban on plastic carry bags, but achieved little as the bags are still freely used in the town.

Most of them were not aware of the environmental impact of plastics. Despite the corporation’s effort to create awareness, many vendors continue to sell plastics.

The Students of the school said that there is no proper dumping site in the town, so most of the truck-loads of plastic carry bags are disposed by the river banks. They demanded a ban on the plastic packing used by bigger manufacturers.

The School also distributed dust bins in many localities of Islamabad Township to help people to dump the garbage properly, the dustbins were pertinently provided by Muncipal Council, Anantnag.

The Principal of the Hanfiya High School thanked Shabir Ahmed Wani, who is the Muncipal council, Executive Officer.

The Students asked the general public to step in and save the earth from getting poisoned.
