4 girls injured as army opens fire on Shopian villagers protesting against Iftar party by it

Shopian: At least four girls were injured when army allegedly opened fire in DK-Pora village of Shopian in South Kashmir on Monday.
Official sources said that the incident took place as army erected mobile tent in attempt to throw an ‘Iftar-party’ at the village and some villagers objected to it.
Local said that despite being asked to leave the village, the army insisted on holding the party, following which there were protests. The army later resorted to firing in which four girls suffered injuries. The girls have been identified as Aqsa, Shaffi Jan, Shobi Jan (13) daughter of Abdul Qyoom Hajam and Shakira Akhtar. While Aqsa has injuries in right arm, Shaffi has leg injury. Aqsa Jan and Shobi Jan were referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
An army officer said that details are being collected regarding the incident before official version is shared with media.
A police officer said that police had no information about army hosting the iftaar party and a case is being registered in the matter for appreciate action as warranted under law.

later police issued a statement which reads as: “Today, 21.05.2018, around the iftaar time, an army patrol of 34 RR had gone to the Jamia masjid of DK Pora village, for participating in iftaar with the locals of the area.
During the Iftaar, a mob of miscreants attacked the army patrol with stones and other items.
The army party withdrew from the scene , by firing Ariel warning shots.” Subsequently four injuries were reported to different hospitals , probably firearm injuries, it said.
“All the injured are reportedly stable. The police has taken cognizance of the episode, and started legal proceedings.
Information is preliminary in nature.”
