On JRL call Kashmir shuts for third consecutive day to mourn Shopian killings

Srinagar: Shutdown amid restrictions continued for second consecutive day on Tuesday in Kashmir to mourn the killings in south Kashmir on Sunday.

Amid complete shutdown Shehr E Khas is under restrictions, Pulwama, Shopian, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Baramulla, Sopore, Pattan, Palhallan, Kreeri, Boniyar, Chandanwari and Rafiabad are all shut including other areas.

All the shops and business establishments remain close while traffic is also off the roads across Kashmir.

Authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city and other places in the valley after separatists renewed their appeal for a protest shutdown.

Police said restrictions would remain in force in Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M.R.Gunj, Safa Kadal, Maisuma and Kralkhud.

All educational institutions, including universities, colleges and schools have been closed for the second day and rail services to specific areas suspended to maintain law and order.

All the educational institutions throughout the Valley are closed for second day, including KU and IUST, since the bloody Sunday which saw killing of ten people including five civilians and five militants in district Shopian and Pulwama.

“Heavy deployment of government forces have been made at all the sensitive places in both the districts of Pulwama and Shopian, to thwart any protests. Internet remains suspended for fourth day in both the districts,” locals said.

Ganderbal is shut for third day to mourn the killing of assistant professor turned militant Dr Muhammad Rafi Bhat.

Dr Rafi had joined militant ranks on Friday afternoon and was killed on Sunday morning in Badigam area of district Shopian.

Top Hizb ul Mujahideen commander, Sadam Paddar and an assistant professor of Kashmir University, Muhammad Rafi Bhat, were among the militants killed in the gun battle with the forces in Badigam village of Shopian district.

Exams scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed. Rail services between north Kashmir’s Baramulla town and Jammu’s Bannihal have been suspended.

Mobile Internet facility also continued to remain suspended for the third day in the valley, including in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian, Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla and Budgam districts
