Srinagar, May 05:  Militants killed in Chattabal in an anti militancy operation on Saturday were intending to carry out some major  attack which was foiled, police said.

The identities of other two terrorists are yet to be ascertained. Police identified one of the three militants as Fayaz Ah Hamal a local terrorist from Srinagar.

“Before formally joining the outfit in April of 2017 Fayaz was operating as an active accomplice of the terror network. He was previously involved in case FIR no 83/2017 u/s 392 RPC, 7/25 IA Act, 30 Police Act of police station MR Gunj Srinagar,” police said.

Police statement reads: “Moreover following recoveries were made from the encounter site including but not limited to AK 47 rifles, magazines, UBGL, UBGL Grenades, Grenades, Wire cutter, Medical Kit and matrix sheets were recovered.”

“On the basis of materials recovered it is assessed that this group was intending to carry out some major terror attack which was foiled.”

The police spokesman further said that “the incident that took place at Noorbagh this morning, in which one person namely Adil Ahmad Yadoo died in a road traffic accident.”

“In this regard a case has been registered at PS Safakadal under relevant sections of law and proceedings have been initiated against the police vehicle/ driver which was involved in the accident,” police said.

Also the SPO injured in the  attack in Pulwama continues to be critical and being treated at the hospital, police said.
