Kathua case: Students erupt again in south, north, center; tear gassed, two girls injured by pellet gun

Srinagar: Following early morning clashes between government forces and students in Islamabad, students protests have erupted  in Ganderbal and Pulwama as well, over demand for justice for Kathua rape and murder victim on Wednesday.

According to eye witness scores of students of Government Degree College Ganderbal marched while raising slogans against the alleged perpetrators of the horrific crime and had assembled on the road blocking it.

Police swung into action which led to clashes and stone pelting ensued, to which forces retaliated with tear gas canister lobbing.

In Pulwama students of Degree college pulwama took out a rally and marched towards Murran chowk.

“As soon they reached the chowk, heavy deployment of forces present there tried to stop them which led to clashes,” eye witnesses said.

Clashes, stone pelting and use of tear gas cannisters was going on in the area.

Earlier the students of various coaching centers in Anantang protested which was tear gassed by forces leaving girls unconscious who were hospitalised and some had injuries as well.

15 people were injured in Anantnag majority of them students including two girl students received Pellet injury.

“Fizma Jan recieved Pellet injury in chest, nose, left leg and abdomen, while Naida had pellet injury in neck and chest. Another girl Midhat had stone injury, Trauma head,” District hospital Anantnag officials said.

A minor clash between students of several schools and police also took place near Azad Gung bridge Baramulla.

Later authorities increased the deployment near women’s college and girls higher secondary school of the north town.

Multiple student protests erupted in north Kashmir’s Bandipora District after Government degree college Bandipora students took a protest march from college premises holding placards in favour of the 8-year-old victim.
Similar protest march by Industrial Training Institute s(ITI) students was witnessed at Chowk wherein the protesting students were shouting slogans in favour of the minor girl victim.
Another protest march was witnessed from Arin village where the Higher Secondary school students took out a protest march in solidarity with the victimized nomad family.

Class work in the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) was suspended after intense clashes erupted between protesting students and government forces.
Witnesses said that police personnel used tear smoke shells to keep students from venturing out of the campus who pelted rocks on them.

The situation is tense in and around educational institutions of Kashmir after students started raising their voice against the brutal rape and murder of an eight year old girl in Kathua.

The incident happened in the month of January however the horrifying details of the crime came out after Crime Branch produced chargesheet against the accused.
