Srinagar: Twelve days after sustaining grave injuries in police action, a 22-year-old youth from Kangan succumbed to his wounds at SK Institute of Medical Sciences here on Sunday.
The youth, Amir Hameed Lone son of Abdul Hameed of Chatergul Kangan, was critically injured on 3 April when forces opened fire at Kangan during clashes. “He succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura at 5:30 a.m.,” Medical Superintendent of SKIMS Dr Farooq Jan told INS.
“He had been taken off the ventilator. He was in the ward. He was talking. Sometimes such patients suffer thromboembolism (obstruction of a blood vessel by a blood clot that has become dislodged from another site in the circulation) leading to death,” he added.
Amir had sustained grave wounds during clashes in Kangan after 22-year-old youth Gowhar Ahmad Rather, who succumbed on April 3 to injuries sustained in “police action” at Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal on April 2, a day after 13 militants, 3 civilians and as many army men were killed in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Soon after news of Gowhar’s death spread, tens of hundreds of people took to streets in Kangan and shouted pro-freedom and anti-government and anti-police slogans. The police fired into the protesters, injuring Amir Lone from Chatragul and 19-year-old teenager Abdul Rashid Khan from Kangan. While Lone had firearm injury, Khan suffered pellet wounds in his arm along with Irfan Ahmad, one more youth from Kangan.
