Demanding money to get detained released, impersonator arrested by police

Soura: An impersonator was Saturday arrested by police who had asked for ransom from a family of a detained boy claiming he belongs to Jammu and Kashmir Police and would get their ward released.

According to police sources  Manzoor Ahmad Mir @Kachra S/O Ghulam Rasool Mir R/O Gulabagh Srinagar living in Masala Colony Soura had gone to family of a youth detained by police and demanded ransom money.

“He had told brother of the detained youth that they need to pay money so that he will get their ward out of police station,” sources said.

Sensing trouble the family of the detained youth informed police about the person ‘demanding money to get their brother out’.

Complaint was filed by Farooq Ahmad Kutoo S/O Habibullah Kutoo R/O Anchar Soura Srinagar that his brother who has been arrested by police in connection with involvement in criminal case and a person is approaching them demanding money to get their brother out.

“He had introduced himself as a policeman from Police Station Soura and demanded money for release of his Brother,” SHO Soura Ayaz Rasool Geelani told INS.

A case has been registered FIR No.47/2018 U/S 419 RPC in police station Soura and investigation is taken up, and the impersonator arrested.

“He doesn’t belong to Jammu and Kashmir police in any way and had tried to mint money from gullible persons whose relatives or others had been arrested by police from their involvement in criminal cases,”Geelani said.
