“Pending inquiry into the matter, Jahangir Ahmad Rather and Rayees Ahmad Sheikh, assistant professors in GDC Boys Pulwama are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect,” reads an order issued by principal secretary higher education department, Asgar Samoon.

The INS had reported the absence of the duo on March 21 that the duo allegedly are working in the Gulf while on ‘medical leave’ from the college. The duo were drawing salaries from the department as well.

However Principal GDC had denied releasing salaries for the months they have been absent but had said they ‘medical leave cannot be denied to them’.

The order issued on Friday also asked director colleges in higher education department to conduct a thorough inquiry  in the matter and furnish recommendations to administrative department within a week’s time.

“Director colleges will also serve a showcase notice to Bashir Ahmad Mir, Principal GDC Pulwama for not reporting the matter to administrative department,” the order reads.
