Teacher suspended for damaging Uri student’s eye with stick in classroom

Baramulla: State’s education department on Friday suspended a teacher for allegedly beating a student at Government Middle School at Nambla area of Uri in north kashmir’s Baramulla district. The student is undergoing treatment at SKIMS.
Family of the student, Faisal Ahmed Lone son of Faroq Ahmad Lone, said that he was beaten so much so that his left eye has been severely damaged. Farooq Ahmad, father of the boy, allegedly that the female teacher also gave Rs 10 to his son for not disclosing the incident to anyone. “Once my son returned back he was unable to see from left eye. Soon after c coming to know about this episode we rushed him to Baramulla hospital where doctors referred us to Srinagar,” he said.
The teacher however denied to have beaten the student, contending that the stick hit Faisal’s eye by mistake. “I was teaching mathematics to the students and used stick as a pointer to read tables on black board. I asked one of the students to sit down with the help of the pointer stick which unfortunately stuck the eye of other student,” she told INS. “It happened by mistake and it was not intentional,” she said
Chief Education Officer Baramua said that the female teacher has been suspended with immediate effect. “We have starts further investigation to find out what was the main reason of the injury.”
While taking cognizance of the reports Director School Education Kashmir Dr. G.N. Itoo constituted an enquiry committee which has been asked to submit a report within three days.
