‘Alert forces’ won’t let situation deteriorate, summer in Kashmir will be ‘Okay’: DGP

Srinagar: Stating that summer in Kashmir will be “okay” on security point of view, Director General of Police SP Vaid on Thursday said that “there was lot of change” compared to last year in local youth taking up arms in the Valley.
“Our forces are alert and they will not allow situation to spoil. This year summer in Kashmir will be Okay,” the DGP, flanked by SP Vaid told reporters after visiting family of Mohammad Yousuf (SPO) who was killed in Hatmatpora encounter with militants along with another SOG personnel of police, Deepak Thusoo and three army soldiers.
Asked whether there would be increase in infiltration along LoC given lesser amount of snowfall this year and that how situation would be in the Valley, the top police officer said: “Our forces are alert and they will not allow situation deteriorate. This year summer in Kashmir will be good.”
The DGP also said that there has been “lot of change” compared to last year in youth joint the militant ranks.
“Now very few join. They are trying to mislead youth. From last year, there is lot of change and hope youth will choose right path. They should serve their life for themselves and their families,” he added.
Asked whether any family member of SPO Mohammad Yousuf will be provided permanent employment, the DGP said: “One who becomes martyr, his son becomes entitled to job under SRO. One of his sons is highly qualified and I will try to talk to J&K bank chairman through Chief Minister (Mehbooba Mufti) for appointment in J&K bank.”
Mohammad Yousuf, a resident of Kachama Kupwara is survived by aged parents, three sons and two minor daughters, the youngest being five-years-old.
