Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday accused authorities of taking lenient view against those involved in rape and murder of 8-year-old Asifa Banu in Kathua earlier this year.
Hurriyat Conference held an Executive Body meeting on Sunday which was presided over by general secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumji. “The executive council blamed authorities for providing shield and lenient view for those involved in this heinous crime,” a spokesman said in a statement issued here.
The participants said that investigation was going at snail’s pace.
The meeting also condemned continuous house arrest of Geelani and said that he has been barred since eight years from offering religious obligations.
Paying tributes to youth killed in Shopian and other places, Huriyat said that despite all hardships “our sacrifices would yield desired results and will see the dawn of freedom set in.”
Blaming Indian Leadership for their “haughty and egoistic approach”, Hurriyat Conference said that despite India utilizing all its resources and military might during the last 70 years, the issue was there and not an iota of change seems to have happened to its status.
“We urge the International Community to take cognizance of the gross and systematic violations of human rights taking place in Jammu and Kashmir and use its influence with India to bring an end to brutal killings and strangulating genuine voices,” the Hurriyat Conference said . “The world community must also play its rightful role in facilitating talks between Pakistan, India and Kashmir and find a just and lasting solution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people,” added the Hurriyat Conference. “This will save south Asia from war horrors and devastations.”
