Pulwama: A militant was killed in brief encounter with army on Sunday evening in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Army sources said that militants fired upon at an army patrol near High School Pahnoo around 8pm. The army personnel from of 44RR retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of fire. One militant has been killed even as firing in the area has stopped.

Soon after the incident, army and reinforcement of other government forces cordoned off the whole area. When this report was filed, the searches in the area were going on.

A defence ministry spokesman said an army party was fired upon by militants  and in retaliatory operation, one militant was killed. “Operation is in progress,” he said
