Highway re-opens as Batote, Qazigund receive highest rain in 24-hours

Srinagar: The strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir with rest of the world reopened for one-way traffic while the state had relentless received rains from past 24-hours with Batote receiving 35.6mm in Jammu region and Qazigund with 24.8mm in Valley.
A traffic department official said that the 300-km highway was reopened for one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu on Sunday morning, nearly 12-hours after the thoroughfare was closed for traffic due to landslides and shooting stones triggered by rains at Morg, Karole, Panthnal and Anokhifall areas.
“No vehicle will be allowed to proceed towards Srinagar from Jammu,” the official said.
Meanwhile, a meteorological department officials said in 24-hours till 0830 on Sunday, Srinagar received 9.3 mm rain, Kokernag 20.9mm, Kupwara 15.8mm, Pahalgam 17.2mm, Qazigund 24.8 mm while Gulmarg had 17.8mm of snow or rain.
They said Banihal received 34.6mm rain, Batote 35.6mm, Katra 11.8mm, Bhaderwah 34.2mm while Jammu had 7.0mm.
“The weather will improve from today,” a MeT official said.
Meanwhile, flights operated from Srinagar International Airport as per schedule and no flight was cancelled or delayed so far.
