Srinagar: Anganwadi Workers and Helpers on Tuesday staged protests against delay by government in accepting their ‘legitimate demands’ in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and in winter capital Jammu.

The protest was organized by Jammu Kashmir Anganwadi and Helpers Association in Baramulla and in Jammu by J&K Anganwari Workers and Helpers Union (JKAWHU) Jammu,

Protesting anganwadi employees have put a list of demands before the government including increase in wages, regularization of services, promotions, increase in honorarium for both workers and helpers in Anganwadi centres and ban on fresh engagement of Anganwadi workers till ‘their demands are not met.’

District President of Anganwadi Union Mymoona Nazki told INS that ‘government has made hoax promises with  hundreds of Anagwandi workers so far, causing immense hardships to families.’

“Government had assured several times that their genuine demands will be fulfilled soon but unfortunately all the promises and assurances have proved to be hoax,” she said.

Nazki said that if their demands are not accepted by the government immediately they will ‘launch much bigger protests and will come on roads with their families’.
