A fierce gun battle started between militant(s) and the joint team of army and police at Palhallan Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Reportedly the one militant, said to be a resident of Tangmarg and active from last ten years, has managed to give slip to the forces. The forces had suspected presence of two militants but mobile intercepts and local intelligence later confirmed to them that only one militant was trapped, official sources said.

Earlier, acting on specific information about the presence of some militants at Palhallan, army’s 29 RR, CRPF and SOG cordoned off the whole area. As the joint team intensified the searches and fired few warning shots near the suspected spot, the militant hiding in the area tried to break the cordoned. However, they said, the militant could not succeed in the first attempt and engaged troops in a gun battle. He however reported escaped in second attempt. There was no official confirmation so far.

Meanwhile, internet services in the area have been suspended by the authorities. The railway authorities also suspended train service from Srinagar to Baramulla even as it would ply as per schedule in south Kashmir.
