Kupwara: People of Keran-Tanghdar on Friday staged a protest demonstration demanding a tunnel through the “accident-prone” Sadhna Top.
Holding banners displaying ‘A small tunnel can save thousands of lives’, the protesters raised the slogans ‘Hamari Maang Poori Karo, Sadhna Se Tunnel Do (We want a tunnel through Sadhna)”.
“If government is keen to save people then it should gear up immediately to construct a tunnel,” the protesters told INS.
“We don’t want to further lose our loved ones. We have been demanding a tunnel though Sadhna since long but authorities are turning deaf ears to our repeated requests,” they said.
“Sadhna Top has claimed scores of lives in past and recently 11 lives including a minor were lost,” they added.
The residents have urged the authorities to “get serious in this regard and construct a tunnel before more lives are lost”.
