Srinagar: The 300-kilomter Srinagar-Jammu Highway remained closed for fourth consecutive day on Thursday even as the traffic police said that decision regarding reopening or otherwise of the thoroughfare, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with outside world, would be taken tomorrow.
“Due to continuous landslide at Marog (in Ramban district), Srinagar-Jammu National Highway is closed for movement of traffic. Decision regarding allowing the movement of traffic shall be taken tomorrow after the road is cleared off by the concerned road maintenance agency and after assessing weather/road condition itself,” a traffic department official told INS.
The highway was closed for traffic on Monday as Kashmir experienced the seasons’s first major snowfall.
He said those desiring to travel on the highway to check status of the highway from traffic control units at Jammu, Ramban and Srinagar before the travel.
“To get status of the NHW, Traffic Control Units at Jammu, Ramban and Srinagar could be contacted,” he said.
