Injured CRPF trooper succumbs, stone pelting in Karannagar

Srinagar: A paramilitary CRPF trooper was killed in an encounter between militants and joint team government forces at Karannagar here. A number of youth took to streets and pelted stones at government forces amid gunfight. While stone pelting is going, firing has stopped with no fire heard in the area from last 20-25 minutes, sources said.
Earlier encounter between two militants and the government forces started on Monday morning in one of the busiest areas in Srinagar.
Official sources said that the militants tried to storm 23 battalion of CRPF at Karanagar 0430 hours. However, sentries repulsed the attack and all security agencies were alerted. Subsequently, reinforced were rushed to the area and immediately search around the periphery was launched.
They said after several hours of searches, militants were spotted inside an under-construction building adjacent to the CRPF camp. As the joint team of forces started to approach towards the building, the militants hiding inside opened fire which was retaliated, triggering of a gunfight. In the initial fire, a paramilitary CRPF personnel suffered injuries, sources said. he was taken to hospital where he has succumbed to injuries.
Police sources said it was not immediate known whether the militants were fidayeen. When this reports was filed, exchange of firing was going on in the area, one of the commercial hubs in this summer capital of the state.
