Ganderbal: Muslims of Lar village in this central Kashmir district on Tuesday performed the last rites of a 90-year-old Kashmiri Pandit woman, who refused to leave the Valley when most other members of the community fled to Jammu and outside states.
In the absence of the most members of the Kashmiri Pandit , the local Muslims organised the last rites of the deceased— Roopa Wati (90) wife of late Prathvi Nath as per Hindu rituals and mourned his death as one of their own.
As the news of her death broke, locals rushed to her residence and arranged wood and other things for the funeral pyre.
“We are saddened by her death. Actually entire neighbourhood mourns the demise. We gathered together and perform the last rites,” Shiekh Ghulam Rasool, a local, told INS. He said Muslims and Pandits are like brothers irrespective of religion.
