Srinagar: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and her predecessor Omar Abdullah on Tuesday expressed heartfelt condolence over the killing of two policemen at SMHS hospital here.
“Pained to hear that two more brave policemen lost their lives in an attack in Srinagar today. My heart goes out to their families and loved ones,” Mehbooba Mufti said in a tweet.
Earlier, Omar, who is also working president of National Conference said: “Two J&K policemen killed by terrorists inside Srinagar’s premier hospital. Heartfelt condolences to the families of Constables Mushtaq & Babar.”
Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Dildar Karnah Kupwara and Constable Babar Ahmad Khan of Shangus Achabal Anantnag were killed after a police party, escorting a Pakistani militant, LeT commander, Naveed Jat, for medical check-up at SMHS Hospital. “The escorting police personnel in the hospital were fired upon by unknown (militants) resulting in injuries to two police personnel who later on succumbed to their injuries,” a police spokesman said. Naveed Jat managed to escape and a manhunt to nab the militants has been launched, the spokesman added.
