Srinagar: Civil Society Forum Kashmir has express shock and anguish over the way drug abuse was being addressed by government as well as by Opposition in the state.
“J&K state is one of the worst hit states by drug abuse not only because of huge availability of drugs but also because of callous approach of government and past government in addressing the problem,” CSFK said in a statement issued here. “CSFK is shocked to find not a single word was spoken or proposal was presented by government in the assembly to control drug abuse. Further not a single leader from opposition raised his or her voice about drug abuse in J&K State.”
The CSFK said that it was evident and known fact that drug addiction has taken J&K state by a storm. “Thousand of youths have fallen prey to this menace and yet government acts as a mute spectator. Drug addiction has taken a deadly trend in J&K state in the last six months. Heroine which is one of the most deadliest drugs and the main reason of deaths among drug addicts is being used alarmingly by the addicts,” it said. Almost 180 heroin addicts have been admitted to various hospitals in recent times, it said.
“God knows better how many of them are at large and unattended,” said CSFK and appealed government, all political parties and society at large to come forward together in a systematic and scientific manner to eradicate the evil of drug addiction from society.
“The drug addiction is now not a job of any single person or department. Hence forth we appeal to all the departments to come forward and form a comprehensive policy to control drug abuse,” it added.
