Sopore: In a major milestone, a team of specialist doctors on Friday successfully completed Hemithyroidectomy surgery of Lal Ud Din, 70, thyroid patient at sub district hospital Sopore in north Kashmir.
“It is the minimum surgical procedure for adequate treatment of a solitary thyroid nodule. This is a safe operation with a minimal risk of damaging either the parathyroid’s or the laryngeal nerves,” said a doctor.
ENT and Neck surgeon Dr Farooq Ahmad Dar said the patient was admitted last night and the operation on the thyroid was done through 200 gm of skin crease incision across the front of the neck removing lobectomy within two hours of operation.
Dr Sami, BMO sub district Hospital Sopore appreciated the efforts of the team saying “this was for the first time such surgery took place in this hospital successfully”.
Meanwhile, family of the patient hailed the efforts of doctors for making the surgery successful. “We are very thankful to doctors and Sopore hospital administration for their efforts and for the quality services,” Lal ud Din’s daughter said.
