Kupwara Massacre: Er Rasheed not allowed to pay homage, detained

Kupwara: Police on Saturday detained Awami Itihad Party (AIP) president and independent MLA from Langate Er Rasheed while he was on his way to pay homage to Kupwara massacre martyrs. He was taken to a local police station.

Prior to detention, Rasheed, accompanied by party supporters and scores of locals, raised anti-government slogans accusing authorities of playing with the blood of innocent Kashmiris.

The supporters chanted slogans ‘Kupwara (massacre) Ke Qatiloon Ko Phaansi Do, Phaansi Do (Hang the murderers of Kupwara massacre), Nehru Ne Bola Raai-Shumari Tum Bhi Bolo Raai Shumari Rai Shumari (Nehru promised of plebiscite, we also seek plebiscite’.

Rasheed on the occasaison said authorities have failed to deliver justice to the massacre victims and their families. “Even Mehbooba-led government has completely failed to restore peace in Kashmir and provide justice to the victims,” he said.

Meanwhile, police had laid barricades at several parts of the area leading to massacre place.
