Srinagar: Encounter started on Wednesday late afternoon at Chaigund Dairoo in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
Two militants are believed to be trapped, sources said.
SSP Shopian Ram Ambarkar confirmed that a joint team of army, police and CRPF cordoned off the Chaigund village following the specific inputs about the presence of some militants.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants opened fire triggering an encounter, he said.
Earlier, clashes erupted between protesters and government forces during cordon and search operation (CASO) at Chandgam village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
