Kupwara: A complete shutdown is being observed in this town of north Kashmir against ‘immoral act’ by non-local worker.
The entire private business establishments observed shutdown on the call by Traders Federation Kupwara.
The shopkeepers and members of the traders’ federation also staged a sit-in protest against the incident.
“A non-local worker was caught in an obscene and immoral activity with a Kashmiri girl few days ago. The worker was arrested by the police immediately after he was caught red-handedly but very soon he was released and is absconding now,” said General Secretary, Traders Federation Kupwara.
“We demand stringent action against the culprit and local people who help such activities,” the General Secretary added.
President of Traders Federation Kupwara, Hafizullah Bakshi said, “We want non-locals to carry on their businesses here. With this shutdown we want to send a message across that they (non-locals) should refrain from immoral acts.”
He added: “It is the matter of our women’s dignity and honor. District administration is acting like a mute spectator and averting their eyes off from this immoral act. The shutdown of all private business units will continue till the culprit was not punished”.
Despite several attempts by INS, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara could not be contacted.
