LoC skirmishes: It’s people who suffer, says Omar while appealing for ceasefire

Srinagar: It is the people on both sides near borders who suffer the most, said National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah on Thursday while appealing to India and Pakistan to maintain ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Reacting to fresh ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in R S Pora, where a BSF soldier was killed and several others injured on Wednesday night, the former chief minister questioned agreeing for new Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), when ceasefire was not being implemented.
He said ceasefire in 2003 was biggest gift for the people living on both sides of the LoC and IB in Jammu and Kashmir.
“But for the past few months ceasefire violation on the border has become a daily routine,” he said.
”In the past we were saying that Pakistani troops are violating the ceasefire and our troops were only responding but recently our Army chief admitted that some time we too are violating the ceasefire’,” Omar said.
