Srinagar: As snowfall started at Jawahar tunnel, the traffic police asked those desiring to take travel on Srinagar-Jammu highway to confirm status of the thoroughfare, the only surface link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the world.
“Snowing started at Jawahar tunnel, road has turned slippery at Qazigund sector. Traffic movement stopped for now,” a traffic police official said, adding that people are requested to undertake journey on the Highway only after confirming status of the road with the traffic control rooms. “The decision regarding allowing the movement of traffic or otherwise on the highway shall be taken (on Thursday) itself after assessing weather and road condition,” the official said, adding, “Commuters are advised to contact TCUs at Srinagar (0194 2485396, 2450022, Ramban (9419993745) and Jammu (9419147732, 0191 2459048) to get status of the highway.”
