Shagufta Bano killed allegedly by her husband on March 15, 2017

Awantipora: The police on Tuesday claimed to have solved the blind murder case of a woman who was hit on head by some blunt object in March last year. The accused, police said, was husband of the deceased.
Giving the details of the case, SSP Awantipora Mohammad Zahid, told reporters that on 21 March last year, Mohammad Rafiq Beigh son of Gh Rasool Beigh of Panzoo Tral, lodged a written complaint at Police Station Tral, stating that her daughter namely Shagufta Bano was married five years ago with Sajad Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Rasool Lone of Chankitar Tral.
He said: “husband and his parents often used to trouble his daughter on petty matters and On 15-03-2017, the complainant (Mohammad Rafiq Beigh) father of deceased received a call from the in-laws of her daughter that Shagufta Bano suddenly fell ill and was taken to SDH Tral, wherefrom she was referred to Srinagar for necessary treatment but died on the way, thereafter, the body of the deceased was buried in hurry with the interference of elders.”
Soon after, Mohammad Rafiq Beigh, raised suspicion on the death of her daughter and subsequently police station Tral initiated proceedings under Section 174 Cr.PC on 21 March 2017. During the course of inquest proceedings, the SSP said the body was exhumed and post mortem was conducted on 17 April last year by the team of doctors of Sub Destruct Hospital Tral.
The medical opinion vis-à-vis cause of death from the team of doctors was obtained on October 25. “On perusal of the medical opinion, it was found that the death was not natural but homicidal and died because of fatal injuries to her brain caused by some blunt object.”
Subsequently, the inquest proceeding were converted into formal FIR on 28 October last year and was registered as FIR No. 84/2017 under section 302 RPC and the investigation in the case was commenced.
During the course of investigation, statements of witnesses were recorded into writing under Section 161 and 164A Cr.PC. On the strength of evidence gathered, the accused was arrested on January 3, the SSP said.
“The accused is presently in Police Custody and the investigation in the case is in progress. “
