As Jan 26 nears, forces start frisking in Srinagar

Srinagar: Government forces on Wednesday carried ‘frisking’ in Lal Chowk, the commercial hub of the Srinagar, and adjoining areas ahead of January 26.

Witnesses told INS said police and CRPF men have erected makeshift check points at various places in Srinagar and started frisking in run up to R-Day.
They said the police and the paramilitary forces were stopping vehicles, near Dalgate, Shaheengunj and other places, for searches and for frisking of the occupants.
Actually, the security has been beefed up across Valley ahead of the R-Day amid spurt in militancy-related incidents in the valley.
A thick security blanket has been thrown around vital installations here in the summer capital as well as in other districts of the valley, the officials said.
They said think cover of contingent of the police and CRPF personnel have been thrown around the venues where officials the January 26 function are scheduled in the Valley. (with inputs from Zahoor Zargar
