Kupwara: Kupwara police has arrested 4 over ground workers (OGWs) of militant outfits who it said were motivating youth towards militancy.
While briefing the media, SSP Kupwara Shamsheer Hussain said, “With the aim to eliminate militancy in Kashmir, Kupwara police has arrested 4 OGWs in the district. Two belong to Kupwara and two are from south Kashmir’s Pulwama distrcit.”
“All the apprehended OGWs were active since past 3-4 months,” Hussain said, adding their aim was to motivate youth towards joining militancy.
SSP Kupwara said 15 youth were arrested in 2017 and after proper counseling they were handed over to their respective family members.
“The initial inquiry revealed that Jaish-e-Mohammad and Hizbul Mujahideen OGWs are motivating youth in Kupwara,” he said, adding that the investigation is on and more arrests are expected.
