At -6.1C, Srinagar records season’s coldest night, Gulmarg freezes at -10.6C

Srinagar: The cold wave further tightened its grip over Kashmir with Srinagar experiencing the season’s coldest night so far, weatherman said on Monday.
A meteorological department official here told INS that the minimum temperature in this summer capital of the state settled at minus 6.1 degree Celsius against -6.0 degree Celsius on previous night.
He said that the mercury at the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir plunged to minus 10.6 degrees Celsius as against minus 9.4 degrees Celsius on the previous night, making it the coldest place in the Valley.
The night temperature in Pahalgam, the hill resort in south Kashmir, dropped to minus 8.1 degree Celsius, the official said.
Qazigund, the gate town of Kashmir, saw a low of minus 5.8 degree Celsius as against minus 4.6 degree Celsius on previous night while Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 4.2 degree Celsius against minus 4.4 degrees Celsius on previous night.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 5.5 degree Celsius last night, down from the previous night’s 4.6 degrees Celsius, the official said.
Kargil, in Ladakh region, was the coldest recorded place in the state as the mercury settled at a low of minus 18.5 degree Celsius. The night temperature in Leh town went down to minus 17.3 degrees Celsius, down from minus 15.6 degrees Celsius on previous night.
