Rafiabad: Several villages in Rafiabad area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district said they are facing shortage of drinking water for the last more than two months.
Residents of Heb Dangerpora village in Rafiabad said despite repeatedly “pleading” before authorities, their concerns go unheard. “We still have to struggle to get drinking water in this chilling winter,” they said.
“We have made several requests to PHE officials through our elders, however all our cries have fallen on deaf ears,” a group of women told INS.
The adjacent villages in Rafiabad belt including Marazigund, Watergam, Druss, Dangiwacha, and Rouse voice similar concern.
“We face immense problems in this bone chilling winter as we have to walk miles to fetch a bucket of water,” they said.
Meanwhile, officials in Public Health Engineering (PHE) Rafiabad division said the problem is due to freezing of water storage tank.
“We will start water tanker supply in the affected areas till the regular supply is restored,” a senior official told INS.
