Sopore: Hundreds attend funeral of youth shot on Wednesday; CASO launched in town

Sopore: Hundreds of people participated in the funeral of Arif Ahmad Sofi who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Harwan Unisoo area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday evening.
Arif, 25, was working as salesman with a pharmaceutical company.
Hundreds of people including women and children gathered at Unisoo village to attend the last rites. The women shouted pro-‘Azadi’, pro-Islam and pro-Pakistan slogans as the body was marched through the village.
Arif is survived by 3 sisters and 2 brothers besides his handicapped father, who is leader of separatist party People’s League.
Meanwhile, government forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in apple town of Sopore on Thursday morning.
Official sources said forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at Herwan, Sopore following a tip-off about the presence of militants.
All exit points were sealed and search operation was launched on Thursday morning.
