Srinagar: Police on Monday arrested eight persons with five kilograms of ‘ganja’ during a ‘naka checking’ party at Zakura in outskirts of Srinagar.
Official sources said that the naka was laid by police at Takia Sangrishi in Khimbar area of Zakura and eight persons were arrested on Monday evening.
“During their personal search about 5kg of cannabis (ganja) was recovered,” a police officer told INS. A case (FIR no 1/2018) u/s 8/20 NDPS has been registered and investigation taken up, the police officer added.
The operation as part of police’s drive against drugs, sources said, was headed by DySP Sajjad Ahmad.
The arrested persons have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir of Gasoo Batpora, Umer Ahmad Mir of Gasoo, Bilal Ahmad Najar of Gulshanabad Zakoora, Momin Ahmad Magray of Gulshanabad Zakoora, Asif Ahmad Sheikh of Sheikh Hamza Colony Zakoora, Zahid Ahmad Mir of Zakoora, Syed Saif of Rainawari and Sameer Ahmad Sheikh of Sheikh Hamza Colony Zakoora.
