BASHARAT RASHID
Tral: People in Tral town of south Kashmir demand repairing of the damaged tube-wells installed by Public Health Engineering (PHE) department few years back.
The tube-wells were installed by PHE’s underground water level wing under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) scheme.
People also demand strengthening of other PHE based schemes.
As per the official records received by INS, a large number of tube-wells were installed in nook and corner of this sub division under NRDWP.
“This (NRDWP) scheme has failed in Tral due to its poor implementation. 90 percent of the tube-wells are defunct,” a resident Shabir Ahmad told INS. “We face water crisis despite having five tube-wells in our vicinity.”
“These wells must be restored at the earliest as crores of rupees were spent on installations. The government must do the needful,” said another resident Ghulam Mohammad.
When contacted, the concerned engineer of PHE Mushtaq Ahmad said the MLA Tral has sent a list of damaged tube-wells to them and the work may start within a week.
