Shopian encounter: Protesters try to breach cordon around encounter site, dozens injured

Shopian: Intense clashes between protesters and forces are going on near the encounter site in Batamuran Wanpora area of District Shopian.

Local sources say that a dozen protesters were injured after forces used pellet guns to disperse  protesters trying to breach the cordon around the encounter site. two militants have been killed so far and one more militant is believed to be still trapped.

Local sources claimed that protesters resorted to stone pelting on forces to disrupt the anti-militancy operation.

Forces had laid siege around the area Monday evening and clashes erupted soon after. Forces yesterday too used tear gas canisters to disperse the people.

Two militants including a local JeM affiliate was killed in the encounter and two bodies have been recovered so far.

Operation is still underway and further details are awaited.
