Srinagar: People in Srinagar and other parts woke up to a misty morning on Tuesday even as night temperatures remained below freezing point in Kashmir Valley.
A weather office official told INS said that the mist or haze that engulfed the Valley in the morning was the result of suspended polluted particles in the air. The weatherman also clarified that it was not the “dense fog.” “Dense fog is when the visibility is less than a kilometre.” Due to the hazy conditions, drivers had to drive at very slow pace because of poor visibility.
Meanwhile, the meteorological official said the state’s summer capital Srinagar experienced  another freezing night of the season with the temperature dropping to minus 3.6 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature at other places in the Valley also stayed below the freezing point. Kokernag recorded a low of minus 2.4C. The minimum temperature in nearby Qazigund, the gate town of Valley, settled at minus 3.2C, the Met department official said.
He said Pahalgam, also in south Kashmir, recorded minus 7.0C, and was the coldest recorded place in the Valley. The popular ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 4.6C.
The mercury in Kupwara, in north Kashmir, settled at a low of minus 3.5C. The ladakh region remained the coldest in the entire state with its capital Leh recording a low of minus 13.2C, while the nearby Kargil registered a minimum of minus 15.4C.
The MeT office forecast a possibility of light rainfall over the next two days. “The possibility of the rainfall is around 25%.”
